Visual field test
- It is an eye examination that can detect dysfunction in central and peripheral vision which may be caused by various medical conditions such as glaucoma, stroke, pituitary disease, brain tumours or other neurological deficits.
- Simple manual equipment can be used such as in the tangent screen test or the Amsler grid.
- When dedicated machinery is used it is called a perimeter.
Perimetry
- It is the systematic measurement of differential light sensitivity in the visual field .
- The light may move towards the center from the perimeter (kinetic perimetry), or it may remain in one location (static perimetry).
- Types of perimetry
- Arc Perimeter
- Example:Lister’s Perimeter
- Only kinetic.
- Peripheral Charting.
- Bjerrum’s Screen
- Patient sits at 1 or 2 m from flat screen.
- Kinetic and Static.
- For central 30 degree only.
- Done under subdued lighting.
- Goldmann perimeter
- Bowl type
- Standardization
- Both kinetic and static
- Peripheral and central.
- Automated perimetry
- Humphrey field analyzer/ octopus.
- Microperimeter
- The microperimeter assesses the macular function in a computerised way.
