Kawasaki Disease
KAWASAKI DISEASE
- Kawasaki disease is mucocutaneous lesions with an acute, febrile, multisystem disease of children.
- Mucocutaneous lymph node syndrome
- Children <5years are mostly effected.
Clinical Manifestations-
- Non Suppurative adenitis
- Edema
- Congested conjunctiva
- Erythema of the oral cavity, lips and palms, strawberry tongue
- Desquamative rash
- Mainly affects coronary vessels, giant coronary artery aneurysms due to thrombosis
- Myocardial infarction and death
- Pericardits
Diagnosis-
- Thrombocytosis, leuckocytosis and elevated ESR
- Anti endothelial antibiodies
Treatment-
- IV immunoglobulins

- child with fever, non-purulent conjunctivitis, rashes, cervical lymphadenopthy, hepatomegaly eruptions on trunk & proximal extremities, bilateral bulbar conjunctivitis without discharge and fissuring -crusting- red lipsand desquamation of fingers and toes showing coronary artery aneurysm on ECG is the most likely diagnosed to have Kawasaki disease
- Strawberry tongue, Pedal Edema & Cervical Lymphadenopathy are clinical manifestation of Kawasaki disease
- The type of arteritis which may lead to myocardial infarction in children is Kawasaki disease
- Immunoglobulin are the treatment of choice for Kawasaki disease
