SEMEN

  • An ejaculatory fluid.
  • Average volume of ejaculation – 2.5 – 3.5 ml.

CONTENTS:

  • Contains sperm.

Secretions:

  • From seminal vesicles.
  • Prostate gland.
  • Cowper’s gland.
  • Urethral glands.

In each ml of semen – 

  • 100 million sperms normally.
  • 50% of men counts 20-40 million/ml.
  • Counts < 20 million/ml – Considered sterile.

Speed of sperm motility –

  • 3mm/min, through female genital tract. 
  • Sperms reach uterine tubes 30-60 minutes after copulation.
  • Morphologically abnormal/immotile spermatozoa – Co-relates fertility.
