“Non-specific” genital infection
- With the exception of trichomoniasis, all the conditions result from infection with TRIC-agents, obligate intracellular parasites of group A chlamydiae.
- Trichomoniasis is a genito-urinary infection mainly affecting women, caused by a motile pear-shaped protozoan, Trichomonas vaginalis. Infection in the female usually affects the vulva, vagina, cervix and urethra, with the production of local inflammation, irritation and a characteristic frothy, yellowish discharge.
- Male infection causing urethritis, may result from venereal transmission.
