GASTROSCHISIS (BELLY CLEFT)
- Gastroschisis is a defect of the anterior abdominal wall just lateral to the umbilicus.
- It is the commonest anomaly in babies born to mothers under 20 years of age
- Common in premature babies
- It is a associated with defect in the involution of 2nd umbilical vein.
- Umbilicus is normal.
- Defect is almost to the right of umbilical cord.
- Nonrotation and intestinal atresia are common associations.
- Infants are prone to fluid loss, necrotising enterocolitis, paralytic ileus.
TREATMENT-
- Fluid management
- TPN
- Antibiotics
- R-T aspiration
- Resection and anastomosis is done (sterile silastic silo bag used in the procedure)
