Correct Answer » B

Explanation

Ans. is ‘b’ i.e., Bleeding less than a laceration

  • In incised wounds, length of the wound is longer than depth, bleeding is more as vessels are cut. There are clean-cut edges and hesitation cuts are seen.

Incised wound

  • It is a clean-cut through the tissues (usually, skin and subcutaneous tissue), caused by a sharp-edged object, which is longer than its depth, when the weapon is struck or pressed and drawn across the body part, i.e., there is pressure and friction. Examples of sharp-edged objects are knife, blade, razor, scalpel, sword, chopper etc. The characteristic features of the incised wound are :

  1. Length is the greatest dimension (most important).

  2. Hair, hair bulb, nerve and vessels are cut bleeding is profuse as vessels are cut.

  3. Width of injury is more than the thickness of the blade, due to the gaping of wound. Langer’s line of skin determines gap: gaping is more when the cut is across these lines.

  4. Margins are everted, clear, and clean-cut.

  5. Clean incised wounds heal by primary intention, whereas dirty, infected or large wounds heal by secondary intention, with scar formation.

  6. Hesitation cuts (Tentative cuts or trial cuts) are characteristic features of suicidal attempt.

  7. Incised wounds on the nose, ear and genital are usually homicidal and are inflicted on account of jealousy or revenge in case of adultery, causing disfigurement.
