The parotid gland, the largest of the salivary glands, primarily produces serous saliva. This saliva is carried through the Stensen’s duct (also called the parotid duct) to the oral cavity.
Opening of Stensen’s Duct:
- The Stensen’s duct opens into the oral cavity opposite the second maxillary molar on the buccal mucosa, just inside the cheek.
- The duct runs across the masseter muscle, then pierces the buccinator muscle and finally opens at the level of the second maxillary molar.
