Question

Hypothalmic pituitary axis (HPA) controls all except‑

A. Thyroid

B. Parathyroid

C. Pancreas

D. Testis

E. Adrenals

Show Answer

Correct Answer » B:C

Explanation

Ans. B & C.
Almost all secretion by the pituitary is controlled by either hormonal or nervous signals from the hypothalamus.
Secretion from the posterior pituitary is controlled by nerve signals that originate in the hypothalamus and terminate in the posterior pituitary.
For most of the anterior pituitary hormones, it is the releasing hormones that are important, but prolactin is mainly under the inhibitory control.
Therefore, damage to pituitary stalk causes reduction in all the anterior pituitary hormones except prolactin, which is increased.
