EPULIS
- Epulis is defined as the solid swelling situated on the gingival.
- It arises from alveolar margins of the jaw.
- Swelling is painless.

Types of Epulis-
1. Granulomatous epulis-
- It is a soft fleshy mass around the teeth on the gingiva.
- Usually pregnancy epulis is granulomatous type.
- Factors are caries tooth, dentures & poor oral hygiene
2. Fibrous epulis-
- It is the commonest form of epulis.
- It is a firm, polypoidal, slow growing & nontender mass arising from periodontal membrane present on the gingiva.
3. Giant cell epulis-
- Also called as myeloid epulis.
- It is an osteoclastoma arising from the jaw.
- Results in haemorrhage.
- Treatment- curettage (small tumours) & radical exicison (large tumours).
4. Carcinomatous epulis-
- Epithelioma arising from mucous membrane of alveolar margin.
- Hard regional Lymph nodes are due to metastases.
- It is non healing, painless ulcer.
Treatment- Wide excision which includes removal of segment of the bone.
