                                MEDULLARY SPONGE KIDNEY

  • It is autosomal recessive
  • Dilatation of distal portion of the collecting duct with associated cyst having a sponge appearance.
  • It is usually bilateral.
  • Infection and calculi due to urinary stasis in the tubercle.
  • Associated with hemihypertrophy of the body, hypercalculs stone formation, nephrocalcinosis.
   

CLINICAL FEATURES-

  • UTI (infection)
  • Stone with  renal colic
  • Recurrent Haematuria

INVESTIGATIONS-

  1. IVP-
  • Bristles on brush appearance due to dilated ducts
  • Bouquet of flower appearance due to calcification of ecstatic ducts
   

TREATMENT-

  • No treatment
