The findings seen in diabetes female:

→ Fasting blood sugar= ≥ 126mg/dl

→ Random blood sugar= ≥ 200 mg/dl

→ HbA1C= ≥6.5%

→ 1 hr. screening test Blood sugar levels >200 mg/dl.

→ Test which predicts congenital malformation in Overt diabetes mothers= HbA1C

<6.5%, no chances • 6.5-9.5%, Chances 5% • >9.5%, Chances 20%

→ Test which detects congenital malformation in babies= TIFFA Scan

→ Methods to prevent congenital malformation in Overt Mothers:

  1. Strict glucose control

  2. Folic acid supplementation-400mcg/day

→ Drug of choice – Insulin (all oral hyperglycemic drugs are contraindicated)
