PERSONALITY DISORDERS – CLUSTER Disorders included – 

  • Histrionic personality disorder.
  • Narcissistic personality disorder.
  • Antisocial personality disorder (dissocial personality disorder).

1. Histrionic personality disorder:
  • Excitable & overtly emotional.
  • Behave dramatic & extroverted way.
  • Seek center of attention.
  • Behave in sexually seductive manner.
  • Use physical appearance to draw attention towards self.
  • Management: Psychotherapy & antidepressants.
2. Narcissistic personality disorder:
  • Have heightened sense of self-importance.
  • Believing being special & very talented.
  • Preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited success & power.
  • On condemn become angry or be indifferent.
  • Fragile self-esteem.
  • Susceptible to development of depression.
  • Management: Psychotherapy & antidepressants.

  • Involve in unlawful behaviors (theft, lying, truancy & conning).
  • Lack of remorse or guilt.
  • Substance use disorders observed.
  • Management: Psychotherapy, carbamazepine & beta-blockers.
4. Borderline personality disorder:
  • In ICD-10 – Subtype of broader diagnosis of “emotionally unstable personality disorder’.
  • History of unstable relationships.
  • Characteristic feature – Repetitive self destructive acts(slashing of wrists, or overdosage of medications).
  • Impulsive nature.
  • Always in state of crisis.
  • Significant mood swings. 
  • Defense mechanism – Splitting (All good/none).
  • Management: Psychotherapy, dialectical behavior therapy, antipsychotics, antidepressant & mood stabilizers.
