Risk for Gestational Diabetes


Low risk:

  • Age<25years
  • BMI= Normal before pregnancy
  • Normal weight at birth
  • No family history of diabetes
  • No H/O poor obstetrical outcome
  • No H/O poor abnormal glucose tolerance Average risk:

Age>25years

  • Overweight before pregnancy
  • Blood sugar levels are ↑ after 24-28 weeks
  • ↑weight at birth-previous baby

High risk:

  • Age>30 years
  • Marked obesity
  • Previous H/O GDM
  • Strong family H/O type 2 DM
  • H/O Congenital malformation in previous pregnancies
  • >3 spontaneous abortions
  • Stillbirth / IUD
  • Polyhydramnios & Macrosomia
