SEXUAL PERVERSIONS


INTRODUCTION:

  • Perversion – Type of human behavior deviating from orthodox or normal. 
    • Describes sexual behaviors considered particularly abnormal, repulsive or obsessive.
    • Considered derogatory & in psychological literature “paraphilia” used as replacement.

Forms included:

  • Clinically richly diversified collection of erotic endowments & inclinations:
    • Pedophelia
    • Sodomy
    • Necrophilia
    • Sadomasochism
    • Exhibitionism
    • Bestiality
    • Fetishism -Sexual perversion characterized by sexual pleasure derived from inanimate objects.

PEDOPHILIA or PAEDOPHILIA: 

  • Psychiatric disorder in which an adult or older adolescent experiences a primary or exclusive sexual attraction to prepubescent children.
  • Process of puberty:
    • Girls begin at age 10 or 11.
    • Boys at age 11 or 12.
  • Diagnosis:
    • Criteria for pedophilia extend cut-off point for prepubescence to age 13.
    • Diagnosed person must be at least 16 years old; adolescents must be at least 5 years older than attracted prepubescent child.
SODOMY:
  • Generally anal or oral sex between people or sexual activity between person & a non-human animal (bestiality).
    • Also mean any non-procreative sexual activity.
  • “Catamite” – Young boy acting as a passive agent of sodomy.
  • “Buggery/Sodomy” – Heterosexual penile anal intercourse.
  • Foecal smell, tear of frenulum, relative constriction of shaft of penis – Seen in person accused with sodomy.
  • Sec. 377 IPC deals with sodomy.
NECROPHILIA/THANATOPHILIA:
  • Sexual attraction or sexual act involving corpses. 
  • Attraction classified as “paraphilia” by Diagnostic and Statistical Manual(DSM) of the American Psychiatric Association. 
SADOMASOCHISM
  • Giving or receiving pleasure from acts involving receipt or infliction of pain or humiliation.
  • Practitioners of sadomasochism may seek sexual gratification from their acts.
    • Note: Sadist & masochist refer respectively to one who enjoys giving or receiving pain, practitioners of sadomasochism may switch between activity and passivity.
EXHIBITIONISM
  • Act of exposing in a public or semi-public context those parts of one’s body that are not normally exposed (breasts, genitals or buttocks).
  • Causes: 
    • Due to desire or compulsion to expose themselves to groups of friends or acquaintances, or to strangers for their amusement or sexual satisfaction or to shock bystander.
  • Exposing oneself only to an intimate partner is normally not regarded as exhibitionism. 
  • In law referred as “indecent exposure”, “exposing one’s person”, or other expressions.
  • Exhibitionism is punishable under Sec 294 IPC for imprisonment upto 3 months or fine or both. 
BESTIALITY
  • Cross-species sexual activity between human & non-human animals
  • Making distinction between attraction (zoophilia) & act (bestiality) is important.
  • Sex with animals (bestiality) is illegal under animal abuse laws or laws dealing with crimes against nature.

  • Unnatural sexual offences are Sodomy & Buccal coitus

  • Fetishism is a sexual perversion characterized by Sexual pleasure derived from inanimate objects
  • Taking off ones clothes and running naked in a public race is called Exhibitionism
  • Anal intercourse between two males or between a male and female is called sodomy
  • Exhibitionism is punishable under Sec 294 IPC for imprisonment upto 3 months or fine or both.
  •  Heterosexual penile anal intercourse is called Buggery/Sodomy
