Beyond 30 meters death is usually rare in case of shot gun wound. What is the expected area of spread of pellets at 30 meters when fired from full choke shotgun?
| A |
45 cm |
|
| B |
55 cm |
|
| C |
65 cm |
|
| D |
75 cm |
The spread of pellets from a fully choked barrel is given below:
- 10 meter – 25 cm
- 15 meter – 35 cm
- 20 meter – 45 cm
- 30 meter – 75 cm
| A |
10 to 15 yards |
|
| B |
20 to 30 yards |
|
| C |
30 to 40 yards |
|
| D |
60 to 80 yards |
C i.e. 30 – 40 yards
The killing range of a military rifle is about:
| A |
100 yards |
|
| B |
500 yards |
|
| C |
1000 yards |
|
| D |
300 yards |
D i.e. 300 yards
Use of wadding in a smooth bore gun rifle produces all except :
| A |
Causes fatal injuries |
|
| B |
Helps in lubrication |
|
| C |
Optimum pressure |
|
| D |
Sealing the air |
A i.e. Causes fatal injuries
Cartridge case of shotgun has percussion (detonator) cap at the base of rim and top wad (retaining cardboard) at topQ. Wad is responsible for separation, sealing, optimal pressurization & lubrication but not for fatal injuriesQ.
Caliber of a rifled gun is calculated:

Distance between two diagonally opposite lands |
|

Distance between two diagonally opposite grooves |
|
| D |

The gauge of a firearm is a unit of measurement used to express the inner diameter (bore diameter) of the barrel.
The gauge of firearms is determined by 1 pound / gauge = weight of lead sphere.
weight of a solid sphere of lead that will fit the bore of the firearm and is expressed as the multiplicative inverse of the sphere’s weight as a fraction of a pound.
Thus there are twelve 12-gauge balls per pound
The shotgun does not contain :
| A |
Barrel |
|
| B |
Choke bore |
|
| C |
Bullets |
|
| D |
Muzzle |
Ans. Bullets
- Shotgun uses cartridge not bullets. Rest are parts of a shotgun
- Shotgun: A shoulder-fired (long gun) with a smoothbore designed to fire shotshells containing numerous pellets or sometimes a single projectile.
- They use the energy of a fixed shell to fire a number of small spherical pellets called shot, or a solid projectile called a slug.

Choking is seen in
| A |
Revolver |
|
| B |
Sporting rifle |
|
| C |
Shotgun |
|
| D |
Pistol |
Ans. c. Shotgun
- Choking is the constricting device present at the muzzle end of the shotgunQ
Firearms
Rifled
- Bore is having a number of spiral grooving, which runs parallel to each other but are twisted spirally°
- Rifling causes bullet to rotate or spin about longitudinal axis
- Spinning gives gyroscopic stability to the bullet
- This increases the accuracy and also imparts greater power of penetration
Example: Rifle, revolver, pistol etc
Smooth-Bored
- Interior of the barrel is smooth°
- When the entire barrel from breech to muzzle same diameter, it is called as cylinder bore
- When the distal 7-10 cm is narrowed, this is known choking or choke-bore
- Some smooth barreled firearms have small their bore near the muzzle end rifled, which are ‘paradox guns’
Example: Shotgun, musket, country made guns
