Removal of an organ (Encircled) shown in photograph mostly leads to ?
C. E. Coli.
The organ marked in the picture above represents spleen.
- Splenectomy causes an increased risk of sepsis due to encapsulated organisms (such as Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, and meningococcus.)These bacteria often cause a sore throat under normal circumstances but after splenectomy, when infecting bacteria cannot be adequately opsonized, the infection becomes more severe.
- As a result the patient should receive the pneumococcal conjugate vaccine -Hib vaccine, and the meningococcal vaccine.
