- By 36 weeks the anterior two thirds of the sole is covered with creases.
- For adequate assessment of this feature, it is necessary to stretch the skin over the sole gently to distinguish wrinkling from true creases.
- Infants with congenital neurologic dysfunction involving the lower extremities and infants with pedal edema may lack normal creases.
