The uterine condition as shown in the picture above represents Couvelaire uterus.
In case of concealed accidental bleeding intramuscular hemorrhage and subperitoneal ecchymoses are often to be found in the uterine wall, more especially in the region of the placental site.
Bleeding may also occur into the broad ligaments. The whole picture was termed “utero placental apoplexy” by Couvelaire in 1911 and is often referred to as Couvelaire uterus.
