A surgical attending has completed a modified radical mastectomy for a carcinoma breast patient. You have to suture the wound using subcuticular sutures. Which of these sutures will you choose?
(Ref: Essentials of Breast Surgery by Michael S. Sabel Ip174)
- Monocryl sutures 3-0 or 4-0 (monofilament) are used in closure of MRM wounds by subcuticular suturing.
- Monofilaments sutures are preferred for subcuticular suturing.
- Braided or multi-filaments sutures should not be used for subcuticular suturing because of increased risk of infections.
