- Enzyme word coined by Fredderick Kuhne.
- Enzymes are proteins or polypeptide (building blocks).
- Except – Ribozymes RNA molecule with catalytic activity.
- Enzymes are of two types-
- Simple- consists of proteins only
- Complex- Apoenzyme(protein part) & non protein part.
- Holoenzyme= apoenzyme + non protein apart.
- Non protein part- coenzyme, cofactor, prosthetic
- Non protein- chemical components are organic molecules(coenzyme) & inorganic molecule (co factors), metalloenzyme.
