LIPIDS

  • Lipids are esters of fatty acids with alcohol esters.
  • The building blocks of most lipids are fatty acid.
  • Cholesterol and terpens lack fatty acid.

Classification of Lipids-

  • According to Bloor’s classification
  1. Simple lipids– includes neutral fats, waxes
  2. Compound or complex lipids- include phospholipids, glycolipids (Glycosphingolipids) , lipoprotein.
  3. Derived lipids– includes fatty acids, glycerol, cholesterol
