REGULATION OF FATTY ACID SYNTHESIS 

  • The rate limiting step is Acetyl CoA carboxylase.
  • Long Term Regulation- by regulation of gene expression
  • Short Term Regulation-
  1. Allosteric regulation- allosteric activation of Acetyl CoA Carboxylase by Citrate
  2. Covalent modification- Acetyl CoA Carboxylase is active in dephosphorylated state and inactive in phosphorylated state.

  • By enzyme Fatty Acyl CoA Desaturase.
