A. Bronchogenic cyst.
B. Cystic hygroma.
C. Thyroglossal cyst.
The structure represented as “B” in the picture above represents Hyoid bone.
- The most common location for a thyroglossal cyst is midline or slightly off midline, between the isthmus of the thyroid and the hyoid bone or just above the hyoid bone.
- Hyoid bone is closely associated with the thyroglossal tract from which thyroglossal cyst & fistula originate,
- Thus during surgical excision of the thyroglossal cyst or fistula, the central part of the hyoid bone is excised (otherwise recurrence may occur).
