Storage & concentration of bile

  • Storage of Bile:
    • Bile is continuously secreted by liver.
    • Released intermittently into intestine
    • Most stored in gallbladder.
  • Concentration of Bile:
    • Bile is concentrated during its gallbladder storage.
    • Gallbladder mucosa rapidly reabsorbs water & electrolytes.
    • Calcium & potassium, bile salts, bile pigments, cholesterol, and lecithin are not reabsorbed.
      • Hence their bile concentration increases 5 to 10 times.

Q. 3

How does gall bladder effect on pH of bile?

 A

Makes bile pH neutral

 B

Bile pH decreases from 8 – 8.6 to 7 – 7.6.

 C

Bile pH increases from 7 – 7.6 to 8 – 8.6.

 D

No effect on bile pH

Q. 3

How does gall bladder effect on pH of bile?

 A

Makes bile pH neutral

 B

Bile pH decreases from 8 – 8.6 to 7 – 7.6.

 C

Bile pH increases from 7 – 7.6 to 8 – 8.6.

 D

No effect on bile pH

Ans. B

Explanation:

Bile pH decreases from 8 – 8.6 to 7 – 7.6.

Alteration of Bile pH:

  • Becomes less alkaline during storage.
  • Bile pH decreases from 8 – 8.6 to 7 – 7.6.
